Jackass Canyon lies within the borders of the Navajo Reservation and requires a hiking permit.  The hike is approximately 2.75 miles (one way) and requires some climbing skills.

Making the trip down into the canyon is one of the best ways to observe the upper reaches of the Grand Canyon.  In particular, you will be traveling into the depths of Marble Canyon.  This is not a good hike to take dogs or people who are not physically capable of venturing down into the ultimate depths of canyon country.

The trek involves a decent amount of bouldering and scrambling.
